DC Global Mala is returning to DC!

Greetings and Namaste!

We are writing to invite you to join us in the second-annual Global Mala Project
, a worldwide effort spearheaded by Shiva Rea, Sean Corne, Michael Franti, and many other yogis, yoga studios, performers and activists around the world.  As it did last year, the DC Global Mala is set to coincide with the Fall Equinox and UN International Peace Day, on the 21st of September, 2008.
As many of you who attended last year's event know, it was a huge success, raising over $12,000 for Trees for the Future in one day, and bringing together 500 participants to salute the sun, take in a dharma talk, and chant and sing at kirtan.  Turnout was so high that we had to turn away many people who came for the 108 salutations, and so this year, we are thrilled to announce that the DC-GMP will be held at the ARC, a spacious, state-of-the-art cultural center in Southeast DC.  In addition to all the events of last year, this year's venue will include the sponsorship of the Mid-Atlantic Yoga Assocation (MAYA), the DC Mayor's office, the Boys and Girls Clubs of DC, the Corcoran School of Art, the Levine School of Music, and the Washington Ballet. Among other offerings, there will be  a "how to salute the sun" workshop for newcomers to yoga, acroyoga, dance, and flying demonstrations, a kid-friendly yoga and art portion (free for DC students age 14 and under), a food marketplace sponsored by DC's Java Green, and a full-fledged Healing Arts marketplace. Performers and presenters from DC and beyond will be there to offer live music and entertainment throughout the day. For more on the developing festivities, please visit www.dcglobalmala.com.

If you are a studio owner, we would like to ask you for your support.  If you are an individual yogi, please save the date for the DC Global Mala.

More than ever, we yogis of the nation's capital have the opportunity to set an example of yoga as compassion in action, of meditation as peace on earth.  We hope you will help us in creating a sacred garland--a mala--around the earth on September 21st! The larger our gathering, the more powerful will be our message of consciousness as evolutionary prana!  Please join us!

Hari Om!

In Love and Light,
